Loudoun Valley Vineyards: A Sign of Good Things to Come
This past weekend while driving up Route 9 through Loudoun wine country I noticed that one of Loudoun’s oldest wineries was under new ownership. Well, this bit of news piqued my interest, so I drove up the gravely driveway and past the vineyard to the tasting room of Loudoun Valley Vineyards.
Loudoun Valley Vineyards was previously owned by the Tucker family and attracts lovers of their wines and southern hospitality from near and far. The Tuckers are not going too far; however, as they are set to open a Bed & Breakfast that is a grape’s throw away from the winery sometime soon. In my visits, I have always found delight in the relaxing country atmosphere and friendly staff, coupled with one of their off-dry white wine blends filling my glass. One of those selections currently available is the Classic White, an aromatic, citrus-laced, off dry white wine blend that typifies spring and goes well while sitting on the outdoor deck basking in the seasonal warmth and stunning views.
Loudoun Valley Vineyards
Well, you know that old saying, the song remains the same? Although under new ownership, the face of Loudoun Valley Vineyards remains a welcoming and friendly one. The new owners are Cameron and Bree Ann Moore, who are new to Loudoun wine country, but not new to Virginia wine. Bree Ann was previously the principal winemaker at Unicorn Winery, and worked as an assistant winemaker at Rappahannock Cellars in 2003. A graduate of the esteemed UC Davis enology program in California, I have been told by a reliable source that red wines are her specialty; thus my eager palate awaits her first vintage.

Upon entering the tasting room I was warmly greeted by a smiling Eva, a personable Kristen, and a friendly four-legged door greeter named Sadie who wanted nothing more but to have her head scratched, and perhaps a treat. Eva guided me through the tasting of Loudoun Valley’s current selections which are all offerings of previous owner and winemaker, Hubert Tucker. Personally, I have always felt that Loudoun Valley did much better with their white wine offerings, as opposed to their reds, so it will be interesting to check out the new releases under Bree Ann. And speaking of new releases, I was informed that there will be several new selections released over the next several months. Additionally, look for Loudoun Valley to keep popular events like ‘Winter Soup Days’, and to add additional events, as well as attending several of the fun-filled wine festivals that all Virginia wine lovers so enjoy.
Great Valley and Vineyard Views
In closing friends, keep an eye on the new Loudoun Valley Vineyards. There is a positive and exciting energy about the place and a good dosage of optimism. During the spring and summer months, enjoy a glass of wine on the outdoor wrap around deck with friends and take in the vista views of the Catoctin Mountains and surrounding countryside.
