Quick Sip: Lovingston Winery Rotunda Red 2007

Hello Friends,

When snowpocalyspe dumped over three feet of snow on northern Virginia a few weeks ago, I made sure I was stocked up on food, toilet paper, and of course, wine. During the time I was snowed in, one of the wines I enjoyed was the Lovingston Rotunda Red 2007. For what it offers, the Rotunda Red 2007 is a nice everyday QPR wine attractively priced at $14.

Lovingston Winery Rotunda Red 2007

The Rotunda Red embodies Lovingstons’s motto, “We bleed orange and blue, but we drink red,” which acknowledges the family’s two generations of UVA alums. The Rotunda Red 2007 is a blend of 80% Chambourcin, a French-American hybrid grape variety, and 20% Tannat. In the glass, the Rotunda Red displays an intense deep purple color suggestive of Chambourcin’s thick skin. The swirl and sniff suggests dark fruit, ripe black cherries, and baking spice. On the sip, the wine is medium bodied and easy-drinking, offering plum and blackberry-like nuances with fine tannins and a medium-length finish. Looking for quality and value in a local wine? Lovingston Winery offers good QPR wines, ranging from $13 to $19. Simply put, you won’t break the bank to enjoy good Virginia wine. Try pairing the Rotunda Red with grilled white meats or red sauce dishes, as well as on its own. Lovingston operates by appointment only, so when you visit plan ahead by calling them at (434) 263-8467. Have a question about this post, friends?
